More Than an iPhone and Less Than a MacBook?

Yes, these were my first words, when I saw Apple's first ever Tablet computer, the iPad. It is a hand held; high speed 802.11n Wi-Fi enabled; multi-touch 9.7 inch gadget with an LED-back lit display screen, and weighing 1.5 pounds. So, what can this iPad do for an average technology user like me?

Can I browse the internet? Send emails? View photographs, play videos, and listen to music? The answer to my questions was a YES. I was satisfied and willing to spend a minimum of $499 for the basic (16GB) model. But, before I could swipe my credit card, I had another question, why should I replace my smart phone with an iPad? My smart phone too does these tasks for me. This required exploring iPad's features.

My editor does not permit me to include all its features, so I am including the ones that you can use the most.

Do not Click, but Tap with the Mobile Safari
Yes, you gauged it right. I am asking you to let go your mouse and touch web pages in the large landscape or portrait mode on the iPad's 9.7 inch screen with your fingers. You can scroll through multiple pages by flicking up or down your finger and double-tap a web page to enlarge or shrink it.

Tap, Type, and Compose
After the mouse it is the turn of your keyboard to give way to iPad's large smart on-screen keyboard. Apple quotes, "the Mail app on iPad gives you a natural new way to see your email". Without a doubt, Yes! iPad presents your email messages in the portrait and the landscape mode, and you can open and work with the attached PDFs, MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, images and other standard files.

Entertainment has a New Look
The high definition (HD) videos need not depend on your LED television screens. iPad offers stunning quality videos with a single finger tap. With an integrated iPod, you can experience sorting and playing music again with a single finger tap. An interesting feature (Genius) in this segment is its ability to automatically play your music type from the play lists. If the HD videos and the Genius features are good, I am sure, 'Great' is the word for the modified YouTube app. The iPad has the specially created YouTube application that lets you to search, play, pause, stop, and zoom the HD YouTube videos.

Entertainment in iPad is much more than what I have described in this section and for the rest, I would let you explore the iPad.

It is also a Phone
Yes, you read it right. Apple has included a micro-SIM slot in the iPad's Wi-Fi + 3G model. Though the iPad's micro-SIM slot is incompatible with regular SIM cards, you can contact a few specific GSM carriers and avail an unlocked 3G iPad. You can configure your Bluetooth headset and utilize its phone calling features.

Wrapping Up
No, Apple is not paying me for this article as I didn't mention a critic's opinion. Though this tablet has its own drawbacks, but it is worth trying the new gadget.
