The Apple iPad features are so diverse that it has been criticised for not really having a clear target market. After all you can have great mobile computing power with the Smartphones and netbooks. Price
The range of netbooks are cheaper than the iPad. There are many different options in both ranges from basic mobile computing to high spec. multimedia computers. But a netbook will always be better priced than an equivalent iPad model.
Battery Life
Th iPad will run for over 10 hours using all the functionality that it has. A netbook will boast long battery life but as soon as you start using some of the power hungry applications you will see a sharp drop in battery life. So the iPad is a clear winner when it comes to battery life.
Operating System and Built in Software
Netbooks really look quite archaic when compared to Apples iPad operating system. The bespoke nature of it means that Apple have really made it very intuitive and easy to use. Hardware
The netbooks are very easy to connect to the outside world with usb and card readers. The iPad has none of this built is. You can't expand the iPad with external hardware and addons. Th initial problem of only being able to run one app at time has been solved with some special apps for multitasking. Its not as smooth as changing programs on a netbook. Where the Apple iPad is better is in the sheer number of free and very low cost apps you can add.

With the introduction of the Apple iPad, a new topic for debate has emerged in message boards, online forums, blogs, and even in the review pages of Amazon.com - which is a better purchase: an Apple iPad or a laptop?
Let's assume that the Apple iPad is up against a good laptop rig that's poised to be serviceable, if not efficient, for the next 2 to 4 years. We're talking about dual core processors, gigs of Ram, a nice video card, and the works

The Power Point

Additionally, the laptop should likewise be declared as the winner when it comes to upgradable features. Basically, most laptops allow you to upgrade its specs, from the RAM to the video card to the storage space to the individual components that comprise the whole. Some laptops even allow you to upgrade the CPU, which is nothing short of amazing.
At this point in time, there is no indication that the Apple iPad is upgradable. And with a price difference of a hundred dollars per storage space increments of 16GB, all signs lead to the unfortunate fact that the Apple iPad won't ever be upgradable.
The Cool Factor
Wired Magazine published an interesting study a few years ago, one which claimed that more than 60% of laptop owners purchased their machines because it's the "in" thing to do. This merely shows that the cool factor is an important feature in choosing many of the gadgets available in the market today.

Is the Apple iPad the Perfect Student Laptop?
Unless you have been locked away in an underground bunker for the last six months, you will have probably heard about the Apple iPad. This new lightweight portable "slate computer" from Steven Jobs, is viewed by many critics as just an over-sized iPhone suffering from serious delusions of grandeur.
However, all kidding aside, is the iPad the ultimate or perfect student laptop? A close examination of the iPad's features could answer this question. What the iPad has or doesn't have, will tell you if the iPad is a suitable device for students or not?
First, lets look at some of the iPad's main selling points which will bring out the student in all of us. It is lightweight and extremely portable at around a half-inch thick and weighing in at about 1? pounds, so the iPad can be easily carried anywhere. You won't even notice you have it in your backpack or bookbag and with over 10 hours of battery life the iPad will probably outlast your longest school day.
Second, it has a 9.7 inch touch-screen color display which all iPhone and iPod users have been properly weaned on. This touch-screen will be very convenient especially in a quiet classroom or lecture hall. The color display will also make reading books and magazines much more enjoyable.
Third, the iPad is also handy for browsing the web, watching videos and even playing games. But it is the book-reading function which could possibly make the iPad a virtual "replacement" for all textbooks. Just imagine, instead of lugging 5 or 6 heavy textbooks to class every day, you have them stored in your iPad - ready for access. But what about highlighting all that important text with a big red marker - there's probably already an App for that.
Now lets examine some features the iPad doesn't have that could discourage some people from bringing this apple to school. Probably, one of the major drawbacks has to be the lack of multi-tasking. If there is anything a young student has learned, it's how to do multi-tasking. Some youngsters have even perfected it into an artform. They know how to watch a video, text a message, send an email, download a movie and browse the web... all the while doing their homework.
Second, the iPad does not have a keyboard which could make it difficult to type or take long notes. While this handicap will mostly depend on the dexterity of the user, keep in mind, young people are easy adapters of any new technology so using the touch-screen keyboard might not be a major problem for them.
Third, the iPad also doesn't have many common features that you would see on a laptop or even a netbook. There is no Flash which will make viewing webpages less enjoyable. There is no USB port which will not please many people, but you can use a dock connector. There is also no SD card slot, no HMDI out and no full GPS. There's no camera or webcam... which pretty much rules out sexting, parents will be relieved but seriously, a truly portable communication device should have included a webcam. Maybe future models will sport them or maybe Apple gave some serious consideration to privacy issues in the classroom and the school environment. A cameraless device may be more welcomed by school officials if the iPad does become the ultimate virtual textbook.
Furthermore, some techies have criticized the iPad for having a 4:3 ratio display which makes it relatively square; instead of a 16:9 ratio which would be more ideal for watching widescreen movies. Since you probably want students reading textbooks, rather than watching movies, this is not really a design flaw.
The last consideration for most students will be price. The iPad is more expensive than a netbook but a little cheaper than most laptops; of course that would depend on the size and brand of the laptop in question. The prices for the iPad range from $499 to $829. The more costly iPads will have more storage for all those music and video files - although the storage is in the low range, only offering 16, 32, or 64GB.
Overall, the iPad does have many good features which make it a very suitable student laptop: it is extremely portable, it has long battery life, it is small and lightweight and its touch-screen color display makes reading books, textbook and magazines a virtual pleasure. Plus, browsing the web, answering emails, watching videos and even playing a few games on this device makes it more of a "slate computer" than an ordinary e-reader like the Amazon Kindle. While the negatives: no flash, no multi-tasking, no camera, no USB, no full GPS and limited storage of only 16, 32 or 64GB, which will leave some buyers cold. Even so, the iPad will have many more takers, especially in the student laptop market.

Bicentennial Man
Bicentennial Man was stung at the 1999 box office, due no doubt in part to poor timing during a backlash against Robin Williams and his treacly performances in two other, then-recent releases, Jakob the Liar and Patch Adams. But this near-approximation of a science fiction epic, based on works by Isaac Asimov and directed, with uncharacteristic seriousness of purpose, by Chris Columbus (Mrs. Doubtfire), is much better than one would have known from the knee-jerk negativity and box-office indifference. Williams plays Andrew, a robot programmed for domestic chores and sold to an upper-middle-class family, the Martins, in the year 2005. The family patriarch (Sam Neill) recognizes and encourages Andrew's uncommon characteristics, particularly his artistic streak, sensitivity to beauty, humor, and independence of spirit. In so doing, he sets Williams's tin man on a two-century journey to become more human than most human beings.
As adapted by screenwriter Nicholas Kazan, the movie's scale is novelistic, though Columbus isn't the man to embrace with Spielbergian confidence its sweeping possibilities. Instead, the Home Alone director shakes off his familiar tendencies to pander and matures, finally, as a captivating storyteller. But what really makes this film matter is its undercurrent of deep yearning, the passion of Andrew as a convert to the human race and his willingness to sacrifice all to give and take love. Williams rises to an atypical challenge here as a futuristic Everyman, relying, perhaps for the first time, on his considerable iconic value to make the point that becoming human means becoming more like Robin Williams. Dragon Ball GT: Season Two (Includes A Hero's Legacy movie)
As the second season of Dragon Ball GT gets under way, Goku is still battling Baby, the last survivor of the Tuffle (originally Tsufrulian) race. It's a relief to the galaxy when Goku's Ultimate Kamehameha Blast sends Baby's ship into the sun. Once Baby's been dispatched, the filmmakers seem to lose their way. The Z Fighters evacuate all the residents of Earth to the Tuffle Planet before the Black Dragon Balls cause the Earth to explode, but the Namekian Dragon Balls restore the planet before anyone's had a chance to miss it. The remainder of the season plays like a "greatest hits" album. Dr. Gero, Frieza, Cell, and Android 17 from seasons 3, 4, and 5 of Dragon Ball Z reappear and are defeated again. Goku reverts to his little boy form, which makes him appear younger than his granddaughter Pan. It seems Goku and his friends have used the Dragon Balls too many times: all the good things they've wished for have been balanced by huge amounts of negative energy retained in the Balls, which crack, releasing the seven nasty Shadow Dragons. Goku and Pan fight them, first one by one, then as a fused super-dragon. Also included is A Hero's Legacy, which aired as a television special in 1997. Set 100 years after the conclusion of Dragon Ball GT, it stars Pan's grandson "Goku, Jr." as a wimpy little boy who's just discovering his Saiyan powers. The special may have been an attempt to revive the franchise yet again, but after more than 500 TV episodes and 13 features, Akira Toriyama's saga of the enchanted Dragon Balls finally concludes with Legacy. The epic sprawl of Dragon Ball Z is impossible to encapsulate--it's a wild combination of Asian magic, alien mercenaries, cosmic rebirth, and much, much more. The primary hero of this anime odyssey is Goku, an alien Saiyan sent to Earth as an infant; when he grew up he was supposed to conquer the planet, but due to a childhood blow to the head, he's become Earth's protector instead. In Androids--Dr. Gero (episodes 115 to 117 of this ever-expanding story), Goku has been stricken with a heart virus; only Trunks, who's come back from the future for reasons far too complicated to explain here, has the antidote. But in the meantime, a couple of superpowerful androids are preparing to destroy everything that lives, and only the evil Vegeta (who is Trunks's father, though he doesn't know it yet) has the power to stop them--if he will set his own world-conquering agenda aside. Each episode of Dragon Ball Z is basically a spectacular fight scene with a tiny bit of plot movement, full of repetitive dialogue and flashy blasts of light and energy--but that hasn't prevented kids from eating them up. As with a good soap opera, it only takes a few episodes before they're hooked, and they'll probably badger you for the entire series.
